be gentleness

Do I even KNOW what that means? Blame my Jersey heritage, but gentleness is abnormal. I am anything but gentleness. Instead, I am loud, childlike, immature, and say the wrong things at the wrong times. I am startling. When it comes to parenting and frustrations increase, gentleness is not even in my vocabulary.

Gentleness is difficult to recognize in our current societal culture. From Influencers to hopping onto soap boxes, and humble brags to calling others out, gentleness is not commonplace. Though, when you do discover someone who embodies gentleness, it’s a breath of fresh air and a surprising comfort.

Tim Challies explains gentleness this way, “To be gentle is to be tender, humble, and fair, to know what posture and response is fitting for any occasion. It indicates a graciousness, a desire to extend mercy to others, and a desire to yield to both the will of God and the preferences of other people.”

“But the fruit of the Ruach is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—against such things there is no law.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭TLV‬‬
